Taylor was identified on security footage at the gas station as he held the door open for Murphy as she arrived, so they knew him. A cashier stated that Randy Taylor and Murphy were seen conversing with each other, and that it was true at his May 2014 trial.
The police were informed about Taylor’s distinctive Daffy Duck tattoo on her neck by the store clerk, so they contacted the cops. According to Investigation, when police showed photographs of the man who was seen talking to Murphy, a local shop owner identified him as Randy Taylor who was arrested the following day.

The allegations against Randy Taylor for the murder of Alexis Murphy were filed on May 1, 2014. Taylor was found guilty on the charges of first-degree murder, on May 8 2014.
Taylor tried to bargain for a lesser sentence, during the sentencing. He offered to reveal the Alexis Murphy body’s whereabouts in exchange for a twenty-year sentence but his offer was declined by the court. Taylor was given two life sentences, on July 23, 2014.

Samantha Clarke, a 14-year-old girl from Virginia, was also linked to Taylor when she vanished. It was discovered on private property in Lovingston, Virginia, on December 3, 2020.
On February 5, 2021, the body parts were discovered in Richmond and taken to the Central Medical Examiner’s Office (OCME). Positive identification of Alexis Murphy was achieved at the Central District Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The identification of the remains was kept secret until February 17, 2021, when it will be released to allow Murphy’s family time to mourn and make necessary preparations.
