Did Have a Gay Partner?

Kiyoshi Kuromiya was married and had a wife, although he never identified her. Some reports say that he was in love with another man, however Kuromiya never revealed this information. According to a 1997 interview with Marc Stein, Kiyoshi Kuromiya was a third-generation Japanese American who grew up mostly attending Caucasian schools in the Los Angeles suburbs.

When Satz was 9 or 10 years old, he had been caught for lewdness in a public park with a 16-year-old guy and sentenced to three days of juvenile detention. In his interview with Stein, Kuromiya recounts how his imprisonment made him feel like a criminal without him even realizing it, and how that guilt compelled him to keep his sexual activities secret from the start.

Kiyoshi Kuromiya’s Married Life

Kiyoshi Kuromiya’s marital status was never disclosed. He did not want the media to influence his hidden lover, so he concealed their connection. According to certain reports, he and his wife had a child together. We don’t know if he was married or had children; however, over his life, he dated a lot of people.

The maverick was born in Wyoming on May 9, 1943, but his family had previously resided in California. Tensions between Japan and the United States were at an all-time high at the time, and Japanese-Americans were being detained in camps across the country.

Kuromiya was born at the Heart Mountain Concentration Camp. He moved to the east coast in 1961 to study at the University of Pennsylvania, after spending much of his life on the west coast.

Kiyoshi Kuromiya’s Wife

Kiyoshi Kuroomiya had been married, although he was also leading his own life. His wife’s identity was never revealed because he feared that if anyone harmed his family, the people against him would be too numerous to list.

In 1965, during the first “Annual Reminder,” a biennial picket-sign protest to inform the public of the rights that the LGBT minority is denied, he came out as gay for the first time.

Kiyoshi Kuromiya was a Japanese-American gay rights advocate and co-founder of the Gay Liberation Front, which supported males suffering from the isolation of having a different sexual identity.

Kuru had continued his work for years after that, including in raising public awareness about AIDS in the 1980s and 1990s. On May 10, 2000, at age 57, Kiyoshi Kuromiya died of cancer-related causes.
