Miriam Haran is the first ex-wife of Benjamin Netanyahu who is an Israeli politician who has been serving as the prime minister of Israel since 2022, having previously held the office from 1996 to 1999 and again from 2009 to 2021.
He is the Likud party’s chairman. With more than 16 years of office, Netanyahu holds the record for the longest term of any prime minister in the history of the nation. He is the first prime minister to be born in Israel following the country’s founding.

Miriam Haran and Benjamin Netanyahu first met
Benjamin Netanyahu has been married three times and has been involved in an extramarital affair. Netanyahu’s first marriage was to Miriam Weizmann, whom he met in Israel. Weizmann lived near Yonatan Netanyahu’s apartment in Jerusalem, where Netanyahu was based during his military service.
By the time Netanyahu’s service was finished, Weizmann had completed her own military service as well as a degree in chemistry from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Miriam Haran marriage and divorce
In 1972, Miriam and Benjamin both left to study in the United States, where she enrolled in Brandeis University, while Netanyahu studied at MIT. They married soon afterward. The couple had one daughter, Noa (born 29 April 1978).
At the university library in 1978, Netanyahu met Fleur Cates, a non-Jewish British student while Weizmann was pregnant. The two started an affair.
When his wife Miriam found out about the affair shortly after, their marriage was ended in divorce. When Netanyahu wed Cates in 1981, she became a devout Jew. In 1988, Cates filed for divorce from Netanyahu following their relocation to Israel.
When he met Sara Ben-Artzi, his third wife, she was working as a flight attendant on an El Al aircraft from New York to Israel. She had a master’s degree in psychology that she was finishing. In 1991, the couple tied the knot.
Their two sons, Avner (born 10 October 1994), a national Bible champion and winner of the National Bible Quiz for Youth in Kiryat Shmona, and Yair (born 26 July 1991), a former soldier in the IDF Combat Intelligence Collection Corps, are their children.
