When he was in the eighth grade, he got a scholarship to go to a special school called St. Augustine High School because of his sports skills. Carl went to Long Beach Polytechnic High School in Southern California after his family moved there. He started at Long Beach City College in 1966 and then moved on to San Diego State University. Carl got his Bachelor of Arts in acting in 1974.
For his college football training, Weathers went to San Diego State University. After not being picked in the 1970 NFL Draft, he signed with the Oakland Raiders. He signed with the B.C. Lions of the Canadian Football League after being let go by the Raiders.
He played a part in the 1973 movie Magnum Force while he was a football player. In 1975, he was in the movie Friday Foster and Bucktown and had small roles on the TV shows Good Times, The Six Million Dollar Man, and Kung Fu. He was a guest star on Starsky & Hutch and Barnaby Jones in 1976. He also had roles in Rocky and The Four Deuces. Carl played the same part in Rocky II (1979), Rocky III (1982), and Rocky IV (1985).
