Gunna was born in College Park, Georgia, USA on 14 June 1993 as Sergio Giavanni Kitchens. YSL Gunna, Yung Gunna, and Wunna are also names he goes by. He is of mixed ethnicity. In his hometown, he attended Langston Hughes High School and North Springs Charter School of Arts and Sciences.

In April 2021, Gunna released Slime Language 2, a collaborative album with Young Thug and their label Young Stoner Life. DS4Ever, Gunna’s fourth and final album in the Drip Season series, was released on January 7, 2022.
