Howard is up for the Vezina Trophy, which is awarded to the league’s top goaltender. He is also a finalist for the Hart Trophy, which goes to the player who is considered to be the most valuable to his team.
The 28-year-old had a breakout season in 2009-10, setting career highs in wins (37), shutouts (10) and goals against average (2.26). He was a big reason why the Red Wings were able to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals, where they ultimately lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in seven games.
Howard is one of the league’s most promising young goaltenders and has quickly become a fan favorite in Detroit. He is known for his quick reflexes and his ability to make highlight-reel saves.
