Warning: Major spoilers ahead for Last Seen Season 1, Episode 6, The Choice.
Last Seen ends its first season with a finale that is less about a big mystery reveal and more about what happens after the truth finally comes out. Ian Ridley has spent years searching for his missing daughter, Maggie, and now he finally knows that the girl he has been calling Sarah is alive.
But finding Maggie does not mean Ian can simply take her home.
Episode 6 puts Sarah at the center of that problem. She knows that Ian is her biological father, but Henry is the man she has known as her father for most of her life. The finale asks a difficult question: what does being someone’s real family actually mean after so many years apart?
What Happens in Last Seen Season 1 Episode 6?
The episode begins with Henry trying to get Sarah and the badly injured Jenna to his father’s compound. Henry believes his father can help Jenna, while Sarah is desperate for answers about what has happened to her life.
Ian is also getting closer. He has forced Donald to help him find Henry and Sarah. Ian is injured, but he refuses to stop because he believes this may be his last chance to get his daughter back.
Donald eventually reveals more about his connection to Jenna and tells Ian where Henry is heading. Ian leaves him behind and continues the search on his own.
Detective Pena is also following the trail. She works out that the group is heading toward Henry’s father’s old compound, giving the police a chance to catch up with them.
Jenna Dies at the Compound
When Henry finally reaches the compound, things do not go the way he expected.
Jenna is already too badly injured and dies. Sarah is devastated and starts demanding answers. Henry has promised that everything will make sense once they reach the compound, but the situation quickly becomes violent.
Henry’s father and the remaining men at the compound prepare to defend themselves against Ian. Henry is caught between protecting Sarah and dealing with the people around him.
Sarah Chooses Henry
One of the most important moments comes when Sarah escapes and runs toward Ian. She even saves him from being shot.
Ian finally gets the chance he has wanted for years. Henry is in front of him, and Ian has a weapon pointed at him.
But Sarah stops Ian.
She tells him that she cannot lose her father. For Sarah, that means Henry. Whatever Henry did in the past, he is the person she has grown up with and the man she considers her father.
Ian is forced to face something he has been avoiding throughout the series. He found his daughter, but she is not the same little girl who disappeared eleven years earlier. She has grown up with another family, another name and another life.
Ian lowers his weapon and allows Sarah to leave with Henry.
Why Does Henry Kill His Father?
Henry’s father continues to put Sarah in danger, even during the confrontation. Henry realizes that his father is willing to hurt anyone standing in his way, including Sarah.
Henry shoots his own father to protect her.
It is one of the clearest signs that Henry’s feelings for Sarah are complicated. He is responsible for the life she was forced into, but he also genuinely sees her as his daughter and is willing to turn against his own father to protect her.

Henry’s Final Choice
Henry and Sarah do not get far before the police arrive.
Sarah suggests that they surrender. At this point, there is still a possible way for Henry to face the consequences of what he has done.
Henry chooses differently.
He takes his rifle, gets out of the vehicle and forces the police to shoot him. His final act is essentially suicide by cop, and Sarah watches it happen.
Henry dies, while Sarah is finally taken into police custody.
Does Ian Get His Daughter Back?
Technically, yes. Ian finally finds Maggie, the daughter he has spent eleven years searching for.
Emotionally, however, things are much more complicated.
The teenager Ian finds is Sarah to herself. Maggie is the name connected to a childhood she barely remembers, while Sarah is the identity built through the life she actually experienced.
That is why the finale avoids giving Ian the simple reunion he wanted. He can prove that Sarah is his daughter, but he cannot instantly rebuild the relationship they lost when she was a child.
Sarah is reunited with Deb and Dean, and the family begins trying to adjust to having her back. Their reunion is uncomfortable because everyone has changed during the years she was missing.
Ian is also left in an awkward position. He has achieved the goal that controlled his life for years, but the emotional distance between him and Sarah remains.

Why Doesn’t Sarah Simply Go Home With Ian?
Sarah’s decision makes sense because Ian is technically her biological father, but Henry is the father she remembers.
Sarah has spent most of her life believing that Henry and Jenna were her family. She cannot erase those memories just because she has learned the truth about her birth.
The finale therefore treats Sarah as a person with her own feelings rather than as something Ian has finally recovered.
That is also why the ending feels uncomfortable. Ian’s search was understandable, but finding Sarah does not give him the right to decide exactly what her new life should look like.
Last Seen Episode 6 Ending Explained
The ending of Last Seen is deliberately bittersweet.
Henry is dead. Jenna is dead. Sarah is alive and reunited with her biological family. The mystery surrounding her disappearance has finally been exposed.
Yet Ian does not get the perfect father-daughter reunion he imagined.
Sarah needs time to understand who she is and where she belongs. She was born Maggie Ridley, but she grew up as Sarah. Those two identities cannot simply be separated into a right one and a wrong one.
Ian’s journey also comes to an important stopping point. For eleven years, his life has revolved around finding his daughter. Now that she has been found, he has to learn how to live without the search controlling him.
The final scenes suggest that Sarah and her family can begin healing, even if the relationships are still awkward. Ian also reaches a kind of peace because his daughter is alive and safe, even though their relationship is not what he hoped it would be.
