Meximutt also known as the O Algo meme is an internet meme character that became popular through imageboard communities before spreading to TikTok and other social media platforms. The meme combines an exaggerated cartoon character with the Spanish phrase “o algo,” which translates to “or something” in English. By October 2026, the phrase had become part of a growing wave of ironic videos, AI-generated clips, and absurd internet humor.
Although the character began in a smaller online community, its use has expanded beyond its original setting. To understand the trend, it helps to look at the character’s background, the meaning of its catchphrase, and how the meme reached a wider audience.
What Does Meximutt / O Algo Mean?
Meximutt is a character from the Soyjak family of internet memes. It is drawn with exaggerated features and is used in jokes that often focus on nationality, online arguments, and stereotypical portrayals of Mexican and Hispanic people. The character is closely connected to the Amerimutt meme, which uses a similar style to caricature Americans.
The phrase “o algo” is Spanish for “or something.” In the meme, it is often added to the end of sentences to create an intentionally awkward or repetitive style of speech. The phrase is not unusual Spanish by itself. Its meaning in this meme comes from the way it is repeated and paired with the character.
For example, a caption might say, “Eating chips o algo.” The sentence means “Eating chips or something,” but the extra phrase becomes part of the joke because it follows the meme’s familiar style.
The humor often relies on exaggeration, absurdity, and recognition of the character. However, some versions also use racial stereotypes or insulting language, so the meme can be offensive depending on the context.
Origin of the Meximutt Meme
The Meximutt meme originated in the SoyBooru imageboard community and developed from the broader Soyjak meme culture. Its background is connected to Amerimutt, a character used to mock Americans through exaggerated facial features and other visual stereotypes.
According to the history, the Meximutt character was inspired by a user known as satoko_houjou_fan, also called Shio or Satoko Yoyo Fan. The user identified as Mexican and became a target of ridicule during online disputes known as “country wars,” in which users represented different countries and exchanged nationalistic memes.
One of the recurring subjects of these arguments was a feud between Shio and another user known as Italian_Chad. Other members of the community used pro-Italian and anti-Mexican jokes to provoke reactions. The phrase “Obsessed brimstone” also became associated with the online disputes.
On December 31, 2023, an edited illustration reportedly appeared on SoyBooru, mocking Shio. Soyjak Wiki credits the artist Romanian Schizo, also known by other online aliases, with creating the Meximutt variant by modifying an existing Amerimutt illustration and redrawing it around the target’s appearance.
The character subsequently appeared on related imageboards and in other parts of the online meme community. Because the original character was tied to personal ridicule and nationality-based jokes, its history is more complicated than that of a typical harmless cartoon meme.
How Did the O Algo Meme Become Popular on TikTok?
The meme remained associated with imageboard culture before finding a broader audience on mainstream social media. TikTok helped introduce the character and its catchphrase to people who were unfamiliar with its original background.
An important wave of O Algo videos appeared in mid-October 2026. On October 15, TikTok user @muttyies posted a clip using the catchphrase in an ironic rant about human empathy and political double standards. The video reportedly received around 649,000 views and 72,400 likes within six days.
Other creators joined the trend over the following days. A video posted by @mingyangxiao1 around October 16 reportedly reached 1.4 million views and 115,000 likes in five days. Another post from @vorlyne received approximately 1.2 million views and 165,400 likes in five days.
On October 17, user @will.bobkins shared a video captioned “yummy chips o algo,” using the phrase in a simple, absurd joke. The post reportedly collected more than 915,000 views and 125,000 likes in four days.

Why Is the Meximutt Meme Used in AI Videos?
AI-generated content has helped give the Meximutt character a new life beyond static images. Creators can turn the cartoon into a realistic-looking character, make it sing, or place it in strange situations that would be difficult to create with a traditional image macro.
This style fits the wider trend of absurdist internet humor, where a familiar character is placed in an unexpected setting simply because the result looks strange or ridiculous. Repeating “o algo” can also make a video recognizable even when the subject changes.
AI tools make it easier for creators to produce multiple variations of a meme without having to draw each scene by hand. As a result, a character that once circulated mainly in imageboard communities can appear in short videos that reach much larger audiences.
However, the presence of AI-generated content does not mean every video featuring Meximutt follows the same joke. Some creators use the character for surreal humor, while others refer to the original nationality-based mockery or use the meme to criticize its own online culture.

Why Is the Meximutt Meme Controversial?
The main controversy comes from the character’s roots. Meximutt was not created as a neutral cartoon mascot. Its original context involved mocking a particular user and using national stereotypes, especially stereotypes directed at Mexicans and Hispanic people.
Some later posts use the character without knowing its background, while others deliberately keep the insulting tone. This makes context important when deciding what a particular video or caption is trying to communicate.
The phrase “o algo” is not inherently offensive. It is an ordinary Spanish expression. The controversy comes from how the phrase is used alongside the character and the stereotypes attached to it.
The trend also shows how memes can change as they move between online communities. A joke that begins in a niche imageboard can become a recognizable TikTok format, sometimes losing part of its original context along the way.
O algo is a Spanish phrase that means or something in English. In the meme, it is often added to sentences as a recurring catchphrase to create an intentionally awkward or absurd style of humor.
The Meximutt meme reportedly originated on SoyBooru, an imageboard community, on December 31, 2023. It developed from the Amerimutt character and became associated with online disputes involving nationality-based jokes.
The character was created by an artist known as Romanian Schizo. The illustration was based on an existing Amerimutt drawing and was connected to online conflicts involving a user known as Shio.
Mateo is another name associated with the character in some online meme discussions. The name may appear in captions and related posts, although Meximutt and O Algo are the more recognizable terms used to describe the meme.
