On February 4th, 2017, the Sheet Music Boss YouTube channel launched. Samuel Dickenson and Andrew Wrangell of Queensland, Australia founded it. The first few dozen videos on the channel were simple tutorials on how to play popular songs, starting with Queen’s “We Are The Champions”.

The channel’s popularity began to increase in May of 2017 when they started releasing weekly difficulty-based arrangements, with the first being “Halo Theme Mjolnir Mix” from the Halo series. Wrangell said in an interview with YouTuber Cider that their main focus is on video game soundtracks because “they’re just so varied and there’s always something new to do with them.”

The meme really took off in July of 2017 with the release of their arrangement of the Battle theme from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. The video has over 6 million views as of February 2019.
