Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes suffered many losses. Some have lost their loved ones, like Tony Stark losing his parents and later sacrificing himself for the greater good. Others have experienced betrayal, like Steve Rogers discovering that his best friend, Bucky Barnes, was brainwashed into becoming the Winter Soldier.
Despite these losses, these heroes continue to fight for justice and protect the world from evil forces, proving that even in the face of adversity, they will always rise above and persevere.

Spider-Man: No Way Home has the most brutal ending to date
After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker finds himself cut off from his prior support system and left feeling alienated and alone in his modest apartment.
As he adjusts to life in New York City as a lone hero, he carries the burden of Aunt May’s death and his friends’ neglect. In spite of everything, Peter is hell-bent on carrying on as the amiable neighbourhood Spider-Man, and he’s tackling his destiny with heroism.
Zemo Split the Avengers
Baron Zemo had the second-biggest impact on the Avengers by splitting them, even if his victory wasn’t as pompous as Thanos’. While Baron Zemo’s actions caused a rift among the team, they ultimately proved that they were stronger together.
Baron Zemo won by manipulating Tony Stark and Steve Rogers with Bucky’s background as The Winter Soldier, separating the Avengers even though he was captured. If Thanos hadn’t forced the heroes to work together globally they could have continued that way forever.
The Avengers were able to put aside their differences and come together to defeat Thanos and his army in the end. The experience served as a valuable lesson for the Avengers, teaching them the importance of unity and teamwork in the face of misfortune.
After Injuring War Machine, Skrull Replaced Him
This revelation not only reduces the emotional impact of Rhodey’s injury and recovery in Civil War, but also raises questions about his agency and autonomy as a character.
It feels like a cheap and lazy way to write him out of the story rather than exploring the potential for growth and development that could have come from his experiences. It’s a missed opportunity to further explore the complexities of his character and his relationships with the other heroes in the MCU.
“War Machine’s retroactive lack of participation in the series revealed in Secret Wars did a disservice not only to the character, but to the story itself.”
Scarlet Witch Lost Son, Partner, and Brother
Wanda Maximoff’s Marvel Cinematic Universe path is special, traveling from villain to hero to villain. Wanda suffered unrelenting agony as she lost her parents, nation, brother, lover, and children at practically one each appearance in war-torn Sokovia. Scarlet Witch dies in her final film, redeeming her fury with a final sacrifice.
Loki Sacrifices All For Multiverse
The Avengers let the Loki variant escape via the Tesseract, which had one of the MCU’s most important arcs, complete with a hero’s grief.
Loki became the new God of Time, cursed himself to constantly view his loved ones from the Citadel at the End of Time. Loki’s death was one of the MCU’s biggest losses, despite his villainous first appearance.
