With filming set to continue through much of 2022, the Diplomat is on Netflix soon. For the initial season, Endeavour promises six hour-long episodes. The show is said to be a political thriller set in the US London Embassy that follows a career diplomat from Washington as she takes up a new post as ambassador to London. It’s about a seasoned diplomat being given an opportunity to succeed as ambassador in London with significant professional and personal consequences. This while an international crisis rages on in the background.
Who’s behind The Diplomat?
Deborah Cahn will serve as the project’s showrunner and creator. Deborah Cahn is also one of the creators who recently signed a Netflix overall deal. Cahn has worked on several popular series in the last two decades, including Showtime’s Homeland, FX’s Fosse/Verdon, and ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. Simon Cellan Jones, a British director, is attached to the project.
The accomplished filmmaker has worked on a number of TV shows and films. He’s directed Our Friends in the North and Some Voices, to name a few projects on the film side. On the television side, he was involved with See for Apple TV+, Ballers for HBO, and Shooter for USA Network.
The Netflix president and CCO Ted Sarandos, who previously worked at MRC Television before moving to Netflix in March 2020, is overseeing the project. Sebastian Gibbs is the studio executive behind the project, having previously worked at MRC Television before joining Netflix in March 2020. All of Keri Russell’s (who also stars), Janice Williams’, Jones’ and Cahn’s responsibilities are as executive producers.

Who is starring in Netflix’s The Diplomat?
Keri Russell will play Katie, the main character of the film. She reluctantly becomes the ambassador since her heart is in humanitarian activities. There are reports that she’s being considered for a high-ranking government position.
Russell is probably best recognized in recent years for his performances as Elizabeth Jennings on The Americans. In addition, Russell appeared in Dark Skies (2007), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2017) and Waitress (2012). In the reboot, Rufus Sewell has been cast as Hal Wyler. Hal is married to Katie and was formerly America’s ambassador, but he is now relegated to the sidelines.
The British actor is known for 1998’s Dark City and 2006’s The Illusionist. He currently stars in the Netflix drama Jigsaw, where he’ll play Charles. Ali Ahn will take on the part of Eidra Graham, who is the CIA Chief of Station in London.
Effective and a realist with a difficult relationship between the CIA and MI6, she manages it well. Stuart Beckman, the #2 diplomat at the London Embassy and in charge of managing the ambassador, is another major character in The Diplomat. He’s a down-to-earth mentor who knows how to get things done.
Where is the show in production?
Filming began in mid-April 2022 and will last until September 2022, according to production schedules seen by What’s on Netflix. Because the series is set in the United Kingdom, most of the filming takes place there. It’s unclear whether Netflix’s Shepperton Studios is where the show is being filmed.
