‘No one, no one, and no one should have to go through this,’ Vile declared. She also blasted New York City’s newly implemented bail rules, stating that the worst part is that even if they capture the suspect, he’ll be released again. Mayor Adams has let Vile down. He promised to reduce crime, but he failed to do so.

‘I wish you guys would go back to Mayor Adams and tell him the city is not safe,’ ‘My brother just became a statistic on the way to the city. He was shot at close range.’ ‘Do your job. Get crime off the streets.’

The aim of civic duty is to make its people feel safe and secure, according to Mayor Gray. Gray explained that he would rather focus on policing the streets so that others do not have to deal with crime. ‘I want every New Yorker to realize this could be your reality tomorrow – your worst nightmare could come true,’ she stated. ‘I don’t want this to be an attack on the mayor. I want him to focus on New York as a community.’

“We need a stronger community,” she said. “We’re five boroughs, and we try to look out for one another. I don’t feel safe. I don’t feel comfortable sending my kid to school on the subway anymore now that there’s more cause for worry. Now everyone who knows about my brother will be frightened,” the assault occurred a few weeks after another subway train was shot at by a gunman, injuring ten people.
