Who is Pelé?
Now 80 years old, Pelé is regarded as the greatest footballer of all time.
He started playing for Brazilian club Santos when he was 15. Then, a year later, he began playing for the Brazilian national football team.
He’s Brazil’s all-time leading goal scorer, with 77 tallies in 92 matches. He’s also Santos’ all-time top goal getter at club level, bagging 643 goals from 659 games. Curiously, Pelé’s real name is Edson Arantes, and his parents called him after Thomas Edison, the American inventor.
Arantes has repeatedly rejected the name Pelé, stating that a classmate insulted him by giving it to him because he wished to outrage him. The player claims he hit his classmate in retaliation, was suspended from school for two days as a result, and then had his suspension extended indefinitely due to an act of violence against another student.

Not much is known about Pele’s wife, Marcia Aoki. It’s believed she works in the medical supplies sector, and that she’s known her husband since 1980.
However, we do know that the age gap between Pele and his wife is 25 years. Marcia Aoki was 50 at the time of their wedding, and Pele was 75. Therefore, as of 2021, Pelé’s wife is 55 years of age, while he is 80 years old.
Pele has said that Aoki is his “definitive love.”
