When is Snowpiercer Season 3 coming: release date, cast, plot, spoilers

The series has been confirmed for a third run – here’s everything we know so far. Snowpiercer season three has been officially confirmed by TNT, which means Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs’ dramatic vehicle isn’t quite ready to pull into its final station just yet.

By the end of season 2, Layton was travelling on a pirate train with some of his closest allies and his enemy’s confidants, while on Snowpiercer, Wilford was trying to hold onto his power while dealing with his train uncoupling and almost getting killed.

The future of this TNT and Netflix show seems promising, then, and below we’ll explain everything we know about the show’s upcoming return.

Snowpiercer Season 3 Release Date

Shortly before season two got underway, it was announced that the show had already been renewed for a third run. So fans needn’t worry about the series reaching the end of the tracks just yet.

As for when the next run will debut, there’s not much in the way of information at this stage. Nor is it easy to guess an air date based on the previous series, given the first run arrived in May 2020 and the second in January 2021.

However we do know that production in Vancouver is now wrapped, so hopefully, there won’t be too long a wait – we’ll let you know as soon as we hear specific details.

When is My Name season 2 coming: release date, cast, plot or will there be another season?

Snowpiercer Season 3 Full Cast Members

Season three should see several returning faces. One star who will be back is Jennifer Connolly, despite her character Melanie appearing to be killed off at the end of the second run.

Executive producer Becky Clements gave somewhat mixed signals when asked about Melanie’s fate in a recent interview with TVLine, saying, “I don’t know that she is alive” but also revealing that “we are pleased that Jennifer will join us for season three.” So perhaps her role in the next run will be limited to flashbacks?

Fans can also expect to see more of Daveed Diggs as Layton and Sean Bean as Mr. Wilford, and series regulars Alison Wright, Rowan Blanchard, Lena Hall, Mickey Sumner, Sam Otto, Annalise Basso, and Steven Ogg are also lined up to return.

We’ll also meet a major new character, with The Fall and The Good Wife star Archie Panjabi joining the cast in an as-yet-unspecified role, while Clements has also revealed that “a couple of smaller characters” will join the show too. We’ll let you know when we get more information on that front.

Snowpiercer Season 3 Plot & Spoilers

The series uses the film as a jumping-off point, keeping the basic outline. The last surviving humans are battling a now-frozen world by living on a huge train, which travels in perpetual motion. While the folks in first class live a comfortable life, the workers in third exist in extreme poverty and are plotting a revolution.

So maybe don’t look to the film for clues as to what’s coming next, the show’s taken pretty much everything from it, and its narrative course has deviated so wildly from that original plot, we don’t expect that film’s third act to reveal anything about the series’ third carriage.

One thing we can definitely predict, the climate change metaphor will continue, after season two’s revelation that the world is getting warmer – with the train possibly to blame. We don’t expect that one to be resolved via a quick monologue this year, it’s too big a topic, so expect that thread to continue.

The season-two finale warned us that there’s ‘weather ahead.’ And it sounds like weather will be a major season-three villain.
