His behavior could be caused by sensory processing disorder which makes him susceptible to overstimulation, this would justify his aggression and self-injurious behaviors which can be found in children who have autism.
This may explain why he feels comfortable acting out violently towards others as well as being able to justify his behaviors in some way that is not always appropriate for the situation.
