Jim Broadbent, a British actor, was born on May 24, 1949, in Lincolnshire. He comes from a family of artists, with his father being a furniture maker and his mother a sculptress. Jim attended a Quaker boarding school in Reading and later pursued his passion for art by attending an art school. After graduating in 1972, he started working in the theater industry and performed with prestigious theater companies like the Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Broadbent started his acting career in 1978, appearing in a small role in the film The Shout. In 2007, he revealed that he would be playing the character Horace Slughorn in the movie adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. He also returned to portray Slughorn in the subsequent Harry Potter films. Additionally, Broadbent is recognized for his portrayal of Roy Slater in episodes of the TV show Only Fools and Horses.
