e621 is a website that was created for the purpose of storing and redistributing anthropomorphic or hairy content. Within its galleries, it is renowned for the extensive collection of Yiff-related materials it holds.
Following the closure of the sidechain in 2007, e621 was founded with the aim of providing a platform to host content found on the sidechain. The entire workforce as well as all assets were transferred to the e621 web domain.
In early 2010 a contest was launched by the website’s administrators to choose the mascot that would be used as the website’s symbol. After the failure of an attempt to manipulate the voting, administrators collected the proposals that received the most votes and discovered that the chosen mascot was a cat that resembled a robot and was named Hexerade.

E961 was introduced in July 2009 with the aim of offering it as a safe-for-work equivalent to e621, which was launched at the same time.
Due to the fact that there were traffic problems, the website was redirected to its original location in November 2009.
When users are looking for content that is appropriate for work, they can use the “Rating: Safe” tag to restrict sexually explicit or adult content.
In 2012, it was rebranded as e926 and featured only content that was considered sensitive from e621.
