Last Seen gets much more complicated in Episode 3. Ian Ridley is still trying to find the teenage girl who called the emergency line, convinced that she could be his daughter Maggie, who disappeared 11 years ago. But this time, the mystery gets much closer to home.
The biggest reveal is that Ian’s friend and recovery sponsor, Donald, was the person who found Sarah after her phone call. Donald takes her home, but he does not tell Ian what happened. That lie becomes the main focus of the episode.
At the same time, Sarah begins asking more questions about the name “Mags.” Henry and Jenna have spent years controlling what Sarah knows about her own past, but their carefully protected story is starting to fall apart.
Who Picked Up Sarah?
Episode 3 begins after Sarah’s desperate emergency call. Ian heard her asking for help and rushed out to find her, but he arrived too late.
The person who reached Sarah first was Donald. He happened to be driving nearby and spotted his niece at the phone booth. He picked her up and took her back home.
This is important because Donald is connected to both sides of the mystery. He is Henry’s brother, but he is also very close to Ian. Ian trusts him, which makes Donald’s decision to hide the truth even more serious.
When Henry learns what happened, he becomes extremely worried. He knows that Sarah’s trip outside the house could expose secrets that he has spent years protecting.
Henry also goes back to the phone booth and cleans it. By the time the police investigate the location, there is little left that could help them. Henry’s actions show that he is not simply worried about Sarah getting into trouble. He is worried about someone discovering the truth.
Sarah Starts Looking for Answers
Sarah is also beginning to realize that something about her life does not make sense.
After her experience outside the house, she becomes interested in the name “Mags.” She wants to understand who Mags is and why the name feels connected to her.
Sarah reaches out to Tommy, who agrees to help her find another missing-person flyer. She wants to look at the information for herself rather than simply accept Henry’s explanation.
Tommy becomes one of the few people Sarah can turn to outside her family. However, Henry discovers what is happening before Sarah can get the answers she wants.
Henry meets Tommy and tells him that Sarah does not want to see him anymore. He is trying to cut off Sarah’s connection to the outside world before she can learn more about Mags.

Ian Refuses to Give Up
While Sarah is searching for information about Mags, Ian is doing the same thing from the other side.
Ian believes the girl from the emergency call could be Maggie, his daughter who disappeared 11 years earlier. He goes to the police station and asks Isabel Pena to investigate.
Isabel reminds Ian that he is no longer a police officer and cannot simply take control of the investigation. Ian does not let that stop him.
He starts asking questions himself. He talks to people who were at the party and slowly gathers more information about Sarah.
For Ian, this is no longer just a strange phone call. He believes he may finally have a real connection to the daughter he has spent more than a decade searching for.
Donald Begins to Suspect the Truth
Donald initially does not understand how important his encounter with Sarah is.
When Ian tells him about the emergency call, Donald begins putting the pieces together. He realizes that the girl he picked up from the phone booth could be the same girl Ian was talking about.

Donald eventually meets Henry on his boat and confronts him about Sarah.

Henry points to Jenna’s emotional state and suggests that discovering the truth could destroy her. He also brings up Donald’s past struggles with alcohol, using his brother’s guilt to pressure him into staying quiet.
Donald is now caught between two people he cares about.

Ian Finds the Clue That Changes Everything
The biggest breakthrough comes when Ian listens closely to the recording of the emergency call.

This changes Ian’s suspicion into something much more concrete.
Ian now realizes that Donald was near Sarah on the night of the call. More importantly, Donald never told him about it.

The episode ends with Ian and Donald at an AA meeting.
Ian does not openly accuse Donald in front of everyone. Instead, he talks about honesty, trust and what it feels like when someone close to you lies.

Ian now knows that Donald was connected to the girl from the emergency call. He also knows that Donald has not told him everything.
Donald understands what Ian is saying, but he is trapped by the promise he has effectively made to Henry. Henry has pressured him to protect the family and keep the secret hidden.
So the ending is not a full confession. Instead, it is a confrontation waiting to happen.
Why Did Donald Lie to Ian?
Donald lies because Henry pressures him into protecting Sarah and the family secret.
Henry knows that revealing the truth could expose what happened years ago and completely change Sarah’s life. He uses Donald’s loyalty to his family, along with his knowledge of Donald’s past problems, to convince him to stay silent.
But Donald is clearly uncomfortable with the decision.
His problem is that he also cares about Ian. Ian is not just an old acquaintance. He is someone Donald has supported through his recovery. Keeping such an important secret from him creates a serious conflict between the two men.

Is Sarah Really Maggie?
Episode 3 strongly connects Sarah to the mystery surrounding Maggie, but the episode does not give Ian a complete answer about her identity.
What the episode does establish is that Henry has been hiding important information about Sarah’s past. Sarah herself is beginning to question the story she has been told, while Donald is starting to realize that Henry’s explanation may not be the whole truth.
