Bob Huggins was born on 21 September 1953 in Morgantown, West Virginia, began his coaching career in 1977 as a graduate assistant at West Virginia under Gardner. After that, he served as Eldon Miller’s assistant at Ohio State University for two years. In 1980, Huggins made his collegiate coaching debut at Walsh University when he was just 27 years old.
In 2023, following an incident where he was detained for driving under the influence of alcohol, Huggins decided to leave West Virginia. He made the announcement of his resignation and retirement from coaching simultaneously.
