Penny Mordaunt is a British politician who, since 2010, has served as Minister of State for Trade Policy in the United Kingdom. Since 2010, she has represented Portsmouth North in the Houses of Parliament. She was Secretary of State for International Development from 2017 to 2019 and Secretary of State for Defense from 2019. In 2015, Mordaunt became the first woman to be elevated to Minister of State for the Armed Forces after serving as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Decentralization from 2014 to 2015. Penny met Paul Murray at Reading University while she was a student. She ran as a Conservative candidate in Portsmouth North in 2003 and lost badly. Because he has remained out of the public eye and has not stuck with Penny, Paul is relatively unknown. Penny is well-known for her spectacular belly-flop on ITV’s Splash! where she spectacularly slammed to the ground, which earned her international renown. The pair married when they were both still students, but their marriage lasted just a year before it fell apart.

Penny is in a committed relationship with Ian Lyon, a classical singer. Mordaunt is an active Royal Navy Reservist stationed on HMS King Alfred as an acting Sub-Lieutenant. In 2013, she was elected to the board of the Wymering Manor Trust and became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Penny does not have any offspring, but she adores cats and keeps Burmese cats at home. The Brexiteer from Devonshire has a twin brother named James. She spent a year away from university to work in Romanian orphanages as a volunteer prior to starting university.

Penny Mordaunt, the second cousin once removed of Andrea Mordaunt, is descended from Denis and Mary Mordaunt, who was born in County Wexford and the Kingdom of Ireland during the late 18th century, according to a genealogy website maintained by her uncle, Henry Mordaunt. Penny Mordaunt grew up in a Christian family and is a practicing Christian. She believes in Jesus Christ and goes to church every Sunday. She considers herself a good Christian.

Penny Mordaunt Family

Penny Mordaunt, the youngest of three daughters, was born in Torquay, Devon on March 4, 1973. Penny was named after HMS Penelope, the daughter of a previous paratrooper. John Mordaunt served in the Parachute Regiment before becoming a teacher and was born at Hilsea Barracks. Mordaunt has two brothers: James and Edward.

She is descended from Philip Snowden, the first Labour Chancellor of the Exchequer, via her mother, Jennifer. Mordaunt’s grandmother was Angela Lansbury’s cousin. Mordaunt went to Oaklands Roman Catholic School Academy in Waterlooville before attending Victoryland Theatre School.

When Edward’s mother died of breast cancer at the age of 15, Mordaunt’s mother was also diagnosed with the disease. Her twin brother dropped out of school, so she stepped in as Edward’s main caregiver. The following year, her father was diagnosed with cancer, but he recovered. To pay for sixth-form education, Mordaunt assisted Portsmouth magician Will Ayling as a magician’s assistant.
