Who Is Emma Broyles?
Emma Broyles, a 20-year-old student at Arizona State University majoring in biomedical sciences and aiming to be a dermatologist, was named Miss America 2022.
Emma, a sophomore, said she fell in love with the university campus and added: “I really felt at home when I visited ASU and didn’t get that same feeling when touring other colleges, so I knew that ASU was the institution for me.”
Broyles collaborated with Special Olympics on her social impact presentation, which she won in the preliminary rounds. Her older brother, who has down syndrome, became a competitive athlete, and Broyles began volunteering with Special Olympics at age 12.
“As a sibling of an individual with an intellectual disability and a Special Olympics athlete, I have seen the positive influence Special Olympics has on the lives of persons with intellectual disabilities, their families, and communities,” Emma said in discussions with ASU news.
“Special Olympics is an organization that my family and I have supported throughout my life, and I am so excited to continue to share its mission on the Miss America stage.”

Emma Broyles Has Been Competing Since 2017
According to reports, Broyles began her career as a pageant queen when she was 15 years old, winning the Miss Anchorage’s Outstanding Teen crown. After competing for several years, Emma took a four-year break from pageantry to attend Arizona State University before returning to compete for Miss America.
Miss Alaska Crowed Miss America 2022 Winner
Emma Broyles from Alaska was named the winner of 2022 out of 51 contestants from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, as she celebrated the 100th anniversary of the competition. New York, Alaska, Illinois, Massachusetts, Oregon, Alabama, District of Columbia, Florida, Utah and Texas were among the top 10 contestants.
The Miss America pageant was put on hold in 2020 due to Covid-19, and the title of queen has been given to Broyles. The competition was previously abandoned because of Covid-19.
