On August 4th, 1978, Kurt Thomas Busch was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. When he was six years old, he began going to the racetrack with his father and participating in go-kart racing. His mother was a teacher. In his first competition, he competed when he was fourteen. Kurt Busch began attending high school when he was 16 years old. After finishing high school, Busch earned his bachelor’s degree from a US state institution.

His father encouraged him to pursue his racing dreams and allowed him to compete as long as he maintained high grades at Pahrump Valley Speedway. At Las Vegas Speedway Park, he won his second competition. He raced modified stock cars during his teenage years. He stands 1.8 m tall and weighs 73 kg.

With victories in the Nevada Dwarf Car championship in 1995 and the Legend Cars Western States championship in 1996, Busch rose to prominence in the 1990s. After joining Star Nursery, he won the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series, a semi-professional series sponsored by NASCAR.

He was voted Rookie of the Year in 1998. With the Star Nursery team, he won the Southwest Tour Championship in 1999. The following year, he joined Roush Racing, which allowed him to advance and compete at a higher level. In 2000, he raced in NASCAR’s Craftsman Truck Series, one of NASCAR’s entry-level series for young drivers.
