A Different World Season 1 Ending Explained: Does Deborah Choose Ellington or Shaquille?

She has been involved with Jalen while still having a boyfriend named Roger back home. Hazel eventually admits the truth to Amir and begins trying to be more honest about the situation.

At the Light the Night Gala, Hazel turns down another romantic opportunity because she is already in a relationship.

Then she receives unexpected news.

Roger, who had been taking a gap year, tells Hazel that he has been accepted to Hillman.

That means the separate life Hazel created at college is about to collide with the relationship she left behind.

Her reaction makes it clear that this will become another major problem moving into the next season.

Does Deborah Choose Ellington or Shaquille?

Deborah chooses Ellington.

After the Light the Night Gala, Deborah returns to her dorm. She has already ended things with Shaquille and believes that he may be leaving Hillman for Colorado.

She also cannot get hold of him.

Ellington is waiting for her. He apologizes for the mistakes he made earlier and tells Deborah that he wants to be with her.

Deborah then runs into Ellington’s arms, and the two kiss.

That kiss is the final romantic moment of Season 1.
